Resignations include band director, coach

The Covington County Board of Education on Tuesday approved a number of personnel actions as the school year winds down.

The board accepted the retirement resignations of:

  • Karen A. Williams, who was the bookkeeper at Fleeta Junior High School for 25 years.
  • John Patrick Maddox, who was a teacher and coach at Florala High School for 25 years.
  • Patsy Lynn Boutwell, who was a bus driver at Straughn High School for 12 years.

The board accepted the retirement resignations of :

  • Valerie Brownlee from Fleeta Junior High School. She will be working for the Alabama Math, Science and Technology Initiative as their middle school science specialist.
  • William Troy Stewart, a teacher and coach at Florala High School.
  • William Benjamin Wilson, custodian at Straughn Middle School.
  • Will Parker, band director at Straughn High School.

The board also approved the transfer of Joseph Troy Turman, who was a teacher and coach at Pleasant Home Schools. He is being transferred to Florala High School.

The board also:

  • Recognized the Pleasant Home School boys and girls state championship powerlifting teams and River Baldwin on her athletic achievements.
  • Recognized Fleeta Junior High School seventh grade students Lexi Bush, Caitlyn Wilson, Emily Butts and Whitney Tubberville for receiving a four star rating at the GLOBE Student Research Symposium.
