LADY BOBCATS ADVANCE: Opp secures spot in Class 3A South Regional

The Straughn Lady Tigers saw their season come to an end and the Opp Lady Bobcats secured a spot in Gulf Shores on Thursday in the Class 3A, Area 3 tournament in Geneva.

SLOCOMB 7,

OPP 3

The Opp Lady Bobcats put up a fight, but fell 7-3 to Slocomb in the opening round of the area tournament.

In the bottom of the second inning, Graceanne Spears hit Jade Kelley with a pitch to start the frame.

An error from the Lady Bobcats then gave Slocomb runners on the corners with no outs.

Slocomb then took the lead when a wild pitch allowed Kelley to come in to score the first run of the game.

The Lady Bobcats then got Mikayla Craig to pop out to Peyton Brown at first base for the first out of the inning.

Slocomb followed with a fielder’s choice that allowed a run to score and put them up 2-0.

After two innings of play, Slocomb led 2-0 despite not having a hit.

In the bottom of the third inning, Spears came out strong and struck out the first batter that she faced.

Opp came surging back in the top of the fifth inning.

Anna Beth Kendrick started the frame with a double and then scored when Hannah Wismer reached on a bunt single.

Maggie Short then put the Lady Bobcats on top with a two-run home run.

Slocomb scored five runs in the fifth to pull out the win.

GENEVA 4,

STRAUGHN 2

In the opening game of the tournament, Straughn fell 4-2 to Geneva.

Dallas Mackoff led the Lady Tigers going 2-for-4 with one RBI.

OPP 8,

STRAUGHN 0

The Lady Bobcats eliminated Straughn from the tournament with an 8-0 victory.

In the top of the first inning, Short singled to start the frame for Opp.

Loryn Praytor reached first with a bunt single.

On the play, the Lady Tigers committed an error that allowed Short to score to put Opp up 1-0.

Ariyon Hightower followed with a single before Spears popped out to Ellie Guilford in right field.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Lady Bobcats went on top 3-0.

Praytor drove in Short with a double and then Anna Beth Kendrick drove in a run for the Lady Bobcats.

Opp continued to put more runs on the board in the top of the sixth and seventh innings to go on top 8-0.

The Lady Bobcats held off Straughn in the final inning for an 8-0 victory.

SLOCOMB 3

The Lady Bobcats battled back to knock off Slocomb to earn a spot in the Class 3A South Regional tournament.

After holding Opp in the top of the first inning, Slocomb took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

Opp battled back in the top of the fifth when Praytor drove in Short and Graci Kidd to make it 3-2.

The Lady Bobcats loaded the bases and tied the game  when L.L. Jones drove in Praytor with a sacrifice fly.

An error then allowed the Lady Bobcats to take a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.

Opp held off Slocomb in the final inning to pick up a 4-3 win and secure a spot in the Class 3A South Regional in Gulf Shores.
