4 units respond to brush fire

A brush fire on Straughn School Road got out of control on Monday evening, endangered nearby houses and required mutual aid.

Heath Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched around 3:19 p.m.

When firefighters arrived on scene to the brush fire, they said they saw patches of fire near the road.

Heath requested mutual aid from Antioch VFD for water by 3:30 p.m.

By 3:56, Gantt VFD was also dispatched to the fire as it was creeping back into the woods.

The Alabama Forestry Commission also responded with a loader to help clear the area while fire fighters worked to extinguish the flames.

The fire started in some brush near the road. The cause is undetermined, but local firefighters warn against dry conditions and low humidity.
