Opp board won’t renew 3 contracts

The Opp City Board of Education voted not to renew the contracts of three non-tenured employees, including an assistant principal on Wednesday.

The decisions were made in a specially-called meeting Wednesday. More than a dozen students and fellow faculty members attended the meeting to witness the vote.

During the meeting, the board went into executive session to discuss good name and character of employees before considering the personnel report. The executive session ended 10 minutes later, and the council approved the superintendent’s recommendations.

The board:

• did not renew the contract of Lisa Newswanger, the secretary of Opp Elementary School;

• did not renew the contract of Ernest Steele, a teacher at Opp Middle School; and

  did not renew the contract of Amanda Inabinett, the assistant principal of Opp High School.

• accepted the resignations of Landra Matthews and Katelyn Anderson, special education aides at Opp Elementary.
