PHS ousted by Sweet Water

The Pleasant Home Lady Eagles fought hard on Friday, but were eliminated from the playoffs after falling to Sweet Water in the second qualifier game at the Class 1A South Regional in Gulf Shores.

PLEASANT HOME 4, HIGHLAND HOME 2

Pleasant Home grabbed the lead early and held off Highland Home for a 4-2 victory in Friday’s first elimination game.

Ava Bailey struck out the first batter she faced on her way to a 1-2-3 opening frame

Hope Gunter reached off of a one-out error in the bottom of the first inning and then moved up a single from Bella Worley.

The Lady Eagles then loaded the bases with one out as Amy Kate Bulger reached safely.

Ansley Johnson then gave the Lady Eagles a 2-0 lead when she drove in Gunter and Worley.

Natalie Schwartz followed with a run-scoring fielder’s choice to put the Lady Eagles up 3-0.

Highland Home picked up two runs in the top of the second inning.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Schwartz got things started with a triple and then came around to score the final run of the game.

PLEASANT HOME 11, KINSTON 7

The Lady Eagles moved into the second qualifier game after knocking off Kinston 11-7 in the second elimination round.

The Lady Eagles fell behind in the opening frame, but battled back with a big second and third inning to pick up the win.

Schwartz, Gunter and Bess Worley each scored two runs in the win.

SWEET WATER 6, PLEASANT HOME 5

In the final Class 1A South qualifier, the Lady Eagles were eliminated after falling to Sweet Water 6-5.

Sweet Water built a 6-0 lead in the first six innings before the Lady Eagles turned it on in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Pleasant Home plated five runs in the final frame, but came up just short in the 6-5 loss.
