Fund established for Hickory Grove

To people who have loved ones buried at Hickory Grove cemetery, Hwy. 84 west.

A group of concerned citizens who have loved ones buried at Hickory Grove cemetery in Opp, have been working for more than a year for the maintenance of the cemetery. We would prefer the city maintain the cemetery, as has been until the year of 2012 when the current mayor at that time decided it was not in the best interest of the city to continue to care for it. We appreciate so very much that our present mayor, Becky Bracke, is trying to help us with this situation and she has already paid personally out of her pocket for the cemetery grass to be cut twice this spring at the sum of $400 per cutting.

I am asking all the people who have loved ones buried there to please help contribute toward this expense, any amount will be appreciated. This is an ongoing expense, and will be for the remainder of the summer. So I am hoping we can get enough donations to take care of the cemetery until our mayor can get the proper ordinance written and approved by the council so it can legally be cut by the city. We are setting up an account, Hickory Grove Cemetery Fund, at Southern Independent Bank, 503 North Main Street, Opp, Al. 36467, for donations or you can send directly to Mayor Becky Bracke, City of Opp, P.O. 610, Main Street, Opp, Al 36467, who will deposit it to this account.

Thank you all so much for your help and understanding.
