The Opp Lady Bobcats couldn’t get much going as they fell to Prattville Christian 4-1 in the opening round of the Class 3A softball state tournament at Lagoon Park in Montgomery.

Opp starting pitcher Grace Anne Spears got Madison Hanson to ground out to the mound for the first out of the game.

The next Prattville Christian batter looped a ball in to foul territory behind the third base bag where Ariyon Hightower snagged the ball for the second out.

Spears then got Callie McAnnally to strike out to end the top of the first inning.

In the bottom of the first inning, Maggie Short narrowly missed placing a bunt down the first base line, but the ball rolled foul.

Short then struck out the first out of the inning.

Loryn Praytor then made solid contact, but flew out to Sarah Williams in right field.

The Prattville Christian pitcher then picked up a strikeout for the final out of the inning.

In the top of the second inning, Kathryn Fallen scorched a ball to right field that bounced off the glove of Hannah Wismer to give Prattville Christian their first base runner of the game.

The next batter popped up behind the plate where Short caught the ball for the first out of the frame.

Fallen then stole second base and came around to score on a double from McKenzie Montgomery to put Prattville Christian on top 1-0.

Spears then struck out Hannah Thrift for the second out of the inning.

A walk and then a pair of Lady Bobcat errors allowed Prattville Christian to go up 3-0.

Spears struck out the next batter to end the frame.

Landyn McAnnally stayed strong in the pitcher’s circle as she sat down the Lady Bobcats in order in the bottom of the second inning.

Prattville Christian got a lead-off single to start the top of the third inning.

Spears struck out the next batter for the first out in the inning, but then another single gave Providence Christian 4-0.

The next batter lined out to Jewel Robinson who fired the ball into second base for a double play.

The score remained 4-0 for the next four innings.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Anna Beth Kendrick reached first on a one-out error.

L.L. Short then reached on an error that allowed Kendrick to score the Lady Bobcats’ lone run.

Opp played in an elimination game later in the day, but it was not available at the time the Star-News went to press.
