BOBCATS NEVER GAVE UP: Pleasant Valley eliminates Opp at state tourney

The Opp Lady Bobcats put up a strong fight, but were eliminated from the state tournament in Montgomery with a 13-6 loss to Pleasant Valley on Thursday night.

Maggie Short got the Lady Bobcats off to a fast start when she reached first with a bunt.

The Lady Bobcats then got runners on first and second base when Loryn Praytor drew a walk.

Short and Praytor moved up to second and third base on a wild pitch before a one-out walk to Graceanne Spears loaded the bases.

Opp took an early lead when Anna Beth Kendrick drew a bases loaded walk to score Short from third.

The Lady Bobcats continued to take advantage of free bases as LL Short walked with the bases loaded to put Opp on top 2-0.

Pleasant Valley then changed pitchers and got a strikeout to end the top of the first inning.

Spears got the first batter of the bottom of the first inning to ground out to Ariyon Hightower.

The next Pleasant Valley batter reached on a single, but M. Short threw her out trying to steal second.

Spears struck out the next batter to end the first inning.

In the top of the first inning, Jewel Robinson hit a single to start the frame.

Short moved Robinson over to second with a bunt single.

Praytor reached safely on a bunt and then an error by the Pleasant Valley pitcher allowed Robinson and Short to score to put the Lady Bobcats on top 4-0.

The Lady Bobcats nearly added another run, but Praytor was thrown out at home.

In the bottom of the second inning, Pleasant Valley opened up the flood gates.

Spears got the first batter of the frame to fly out, but a bunt single from Mikayla Kendrick got Pleasant Valley rolling.

Pleasant Valley racked up the hits and drew several walks to go on top 8-4 at the end of the second inning.

In the top of the third inning, Robinson singled with two outs, but the Lady Bobcats were unable to move her around.

Grace Kidd was in the pitcher’s circle for the Lady Bobcats in the bottom of the third inning and got the first batter to hit a line-drive out right back up the middle.

Pleasant Valley then used the long ball to take a 12-4 lead into the fourth inning.

In the top of the fourth inning, Spears singled with two outs to get things going for the Lady Bobcats.

Peyton Brown entered the game as a courtesy runner for Spears.

Rylie Walker then moved Brown to second with a single.

The Lady Bobcats picked up a third straight two-out hit when Kendrick drove in Brown with a single.

Opp loaded up the bases with a walk to L. Short, but the next batter grounded out to second base to end the threat.

In the top of the fifth inning, Robinson led off the inning with a single.

Robinson then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from M. Short.

Praytor then grounded out, but the play allowed Robinson to get to third base with two outs.

Hightower followed with a two-out single that allowed Robinson to score.

Pleasant Valley came up with one run in the bottom of the fifth to cap of the 13-6 victory in the elimination round.

Robinson led the Lady Bobcats at the plate going 3-for-4 with three singles and two runs scored.

M. Short finished the game 2-for-4 with two singles and two runs scored.

Kendrick went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

The Lady Bobcats finished the season with a 24-20-1 record.
