Grant to fund summer art academy for county students

High school students in the Covington County School System have an opportunity to participate in a CCS Fine Arts Leadership Academy from June 25-29.

“This is a joint endeavor among several high school faculty members at all four of our county high schools,” Jennifer Winthrow said.

The academy is funded by grants received from through the Alabama State Department of Education’s Alabama Arts Initiative in Education program.

Classes will be held from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily. Students will receive technique training in multiple mediums with final pieces being displayed in an art show at the end of the week on Fri., June 29, from 5 until 7 p.m. The classes will be held at 807 C.C. Baker Ave., Andalusia.

All supplies are provided and the entire cost of attending is only $15.

Any high school student in grades 9-12 at any Covington County School is eligible to attend.

Attendance is very limited, so those interested should register as soon as possible. Participants will be notified in early June.
