Police close Opp street after gunfire breaks out

Kolb Avenue in Opp was closed Tuesday afternoon after the Opp Police Department responded to an exchange of gunfire in the area.

Officers were called to the area at 3:51 p.m.

According to the OPD, the initial investigation shows that two vehicles were involved, and the occupants of the vehicles were shooting at each other with pistols and assault rifles.

“Investigators have identified both of the involved vehicles and located one of the involved vehicles in Opp,” according to a statement posted to the OPD’s social media page. “Investigators are now attempting to identify those subjects that were in the two vehicles as well as locate the second vehicle.”

No one has been reported injured.

OPD officers, Covington County Sheriff’s Department Deputies and District Attorney investigators closed Kolb Avenue as they investigated.
