Shirley Marie Wells

Miss Shirley Marie Wells went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 10, 2018. She had been a resident of Andalusia Manor for several years.

Shirley was a member of West Highland Baptist Church. She was known as the babysitter for many prominent families in Andalusia. She was a graduate of Straughn High School, a member of Alabama Woman’s Missionary Union and a friend to all she met. Those of you who knew her knew that she loved to hug and be hugged.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2018, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday evening.

She is survived by her brother, Jimmy Wells of Dothan; step-sister, Judy Terry Brewer; nephews, Jedidiah “Di” Wells and James Taylor Jones; great-nephew, Easton Ford Wells; aunts, Retha Watkins of Heath, Louise (Julian) Johnson of Pensacola, and Margaret and Henry Kilpatrick of Andalusia; uncle, Dewey Elmore; and numerous cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ollie Foy Wells and Mildred Phillyaw Wells; step-father, Wallace Terry; sisters, Ramona Wells and Evelyn Wells; brother, Larry Wells; aunts, Annie Lois, Sudie Johnson, Jewel Hogg, Peggy Philyaw, and Myrtle Elmore; and uncle, Billy Philyaw.

A “THANK YOU” to those who managed her affairs since 2005, Roger Terry, Kathy Jones, Martha Cordell, and Judge Ashley McKathin along with Andalusia Manor nurses and business staff, Dr. Frank Maddox, Ricky Lewis, and CRNP Erica Hawsey.

Inez Beasley Stallings

Mrs. Inez Beasley Stallings, 90, of the Rome community, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Andalusia Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, at Pleasant Home Baptist Church with Brother Fred Kelley and Brother Ronald Beasley officiating the service. The interment will follow in Pleasant Home Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at Pleasant Home Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Vickie Stallings of the Rome community; a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Thomas Rodgers also of the Rome community; her grandchildren, Kevin (Kellye) Rodgers, Stacey Stallings (Ronnie) Martin, Ashlie Stallings (Shane) Odom; six great-grandchildren, Kyleigh Rodgers, Kelsey Rodgers, Kady Martin, Abi Martin, Logan Odom, Jackson Odom; a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Teresa Beasley of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth Lowery, Irene and Alton Kelly, Ruth and Billy Bush all of Pensacola; a sister-in-law, Katrina Brown of Orlando, Fla.; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Charles Stallings.

DARWIN SHARBROOK PIPPIN

Darwin Sharbrook Pippin died Thu., June 7, 2018. He was 95.

He is survived by his brother, Charles McGuire Pippin; daughters, Angelyn Pippin Simmons and Dottie Pippin (Jeff) Castleberry; grandchildren, Amanda Simmons (Wil) McGriff, Olivia Simmons (Greg) Ennis; Anna Dyas (Geoffrey) Hancy, and Taylor Drayton Castleberry; and great-grandchildren, Darwin Clark McGriff, Emma Elizabeth Ennis, Henley Prim Hancy, Gregory Dale Ennis, Jr, Annalyn Bell Ennis, Brooks McKim Hancy, and Lydia Ann Hancy; many cousins, nieces, and nephews, and countless friends.

He attended Andalusia High School before enlisting in the United States Navy. He was a gunner’s mate first class stationed on merchant marine ships and circled the globe three times during World War II.

After the conclusion of WWII, Darwin attended Auburn University where he majored in mechanical engineering. He married Dorothy Perkins Taylor on June 10, 1947. They left Auburn to return to Andalusia to open TP Flower & Gift Shop with her parents, Angelyn and Perkins Taylor. Darwin later served as president of the Alabama Floral Association and Alabama Director of Florist Transworld Delivery.

Darwin left TP Flower & Gift Shop to become a salesman for the newly formed TPS, Inc., and eventually became sales manager. He was honored to receive the first Founders Award at TPS. Darwin treasured the people he worked with at TPS, and the dear friends he made there have enriched his life more than words can say.

Darwin was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Andalusia where he served as a Deacon, Church Training Director, and President of the Brotherhood.

He and his wife, Dorothy, sponsored a teenage evangelism group called TEAM (teenagers effective at ministering) in the late 60s. This group did revivals in many churches in Alabama and Florida as well as a mission trip to Fort Knox, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., today, Tue., June 12, 2018, from First Baptist Church with Dr. Bob Marsh officiating the service. Interment will follow in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Visitation were held Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Foreman Funeral Home. He will lie in state 30 minutes prior to services at the church.

The family would like to thank the community and friends for their kind outpouring of love and support.

 

 

JACOB N. ELMORE

Mr. Jacob N. Elmore, age 80, of Andalusia, passed away on Fri., June 8, 2018, at Andalusia Hospital.

A graveside service were held at 4 p.m., Sat., June 9, 2018, in Carolina Cemetery.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Robbie Ballard; grandchildren, Lori (joey) Griffin, Britni Ballard, and Bob (Jordan) Ballard; great grandchildren, Madison Griffin, Bradie Griffin, Brylie Ann Griffin, James Rossi Ballard, Case Ballard, and Halli Jo Ballard; and siblings, Faye (Glen) Sightler, Barbara Bradley, Harold (Ferrolyn) Elmore, Gloria (Eddie) Cannon, Charlotte (Gary) Smith, and Elaine (Gordon) Bulger.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Martha Lou Elmore; parents, J.C. and Minnie Bell Elmore; and siblings, Lucille Sightler, J.C. Elmore, Jr., Darell Elmore, Tolbert Elmore, Annie Jim Brogden, Nell Trawick, James Elmore, Jean Powell, Wayne Elmore, Ray “PeeWee” Elmore, and Glinda Robbins.

LILLIAN F. TART

Mrs. Lillian F. Tart, age 96, of Andalusia, passed away on Thu., June 7, 2018.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Sun., June 10, 2018, at Carolina Baptist Church with Brother Garrett Davis officiating the service, interment will follow in Carolina Cemetery. Visitation was held Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., at Foreman Funeral Home. She will also lie in state 30 minutes prior to services at the church.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Herbert and Carol Tart of Cummings, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Harold Waldon of Mobile; four grandchildren, Scott Tart, Suzanne Hall, Melissa (Tim) Perrin, and Amanda Waldon; great grandchildren, Taylor Dale, Annie Dale, Lindsey Tart, Jonathen Bushnell, Andrew Bushnell, MaKayla Bushnell, Alex Perrin, and Zack Perrin; brother and sister-in-law, Cecil and Nette Franklin; sisters, Sybil Stokes and JoAnne Britt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Scott Tart, Tim Perrin, Randy Davis, Jerome Davis, Reggie Davis, and Jeff Duke.
