School prepared for 7 maternity leaves

Andalusia Elementary School is expecting a baby boom this year, with seven of its teachers preparing to welcome new members of their families.

Principal Brenda Johnson said the school has a plan in place to cover classes with qualified personnel.

“After school started, the administrators began talking with applicants who had applied for a teaching position with ACS, as well as former AES teachers who had retired, and substitutes,” Johnson said. “As of now, all of these maternity leave positions have been filled with either a certified teacher, retired teacher, or an experienced substitute.”

The expectant teachers include Natalie Mims, due “any day now;” Jessica Daniels, due Oct. 8; Bonnie Lee, due Oct. 9; Vanessa Hernandez, due Oct. 11; Anna Caldwell, due Oct. 19; Nancy Wilson, due Dec. 12; and Katie Poole, due Dec. 23.
