TIME FOR THE PLAYOFFS: LBWCC Saints wrap up regular season play

The LBWCC Saints (23-24) were swept by the Chattahoochee Valley Community College Pirates on Saturday in Phenix City in the final regular season series of the year.

GAME ONE

CHATT VALLEY 12, LBWCC 2

In the first game of the day, the Pirates jumped out front early and held on for a big 12-2 victory.

Jesse Hall walked to start the game, but a double play from the next batter wiped out the runners.

Jonathan Holbert got the start on the mound and got the first batter to ground out to start the bottom of the first.

Holbert struck out the next batter and got a fly ball from the next batter for a 1-2-3 inning.

The Pirates loaded the bases with three singles in the bottom of the second inning and then a double put Chattahoochee Valley up 3-0.

After two innings of play, the Pirates where on top 8-0.

LBWCC got a run in the top of the fourth inning when Russ Carpenter scored off of an error.

Cobey Hawthorne singled to start the top of the fifth inning.

Hawthorne then came around to score on a single from Peyton Mohler.

The Pirates ended the game with a run scoring double in the bottom of the sixth.

GAME TWO

CHATT VALLEY 6, LBWCC 5

In the final regular season game of the year, Chattahoochee Valley held off a late rally from the Saints to come up with a 6-5 win.

The Saints went down in order to start the top of the first inning.

In the bottom of the first inning, Barlow Jason worked a 1-2-3 frame with a strikeout and a pair of ground outs.

Reid Whitaker drew a one-out walk in the top of the second inning, but the frame was ended with a double play.

Jason walked a pair of Pirates in the bottom of the second inning, but he worked his way out of the inning without giving up a run.

Carpenter got the top of the third inning going with a single off of a line drive to left field.

Parker Griffin followed with a walk, but the Pirates escaped the frame without allowing the Saints to score.

The Pirates got a single to start bottom of the third inning and moved the runner to second with a sacrifice bunt.

Chattahoochee Valley then scored off of an error to go up 1-0.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Pirates drew a one-out walk and then an error moved the lead runner to third.

The Pirates scored off of a sacrifice fly to go up 2-0.

Jarius Colley singled to start the top of the fifth inning, but the Saints couldn’t bring him around to score.

The Pirates went up 5-0 with a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Colley was hit by a pitch to start the frame.

Colley moved to third on a double from Carpenter.

Griffin then brought both players around to score with a double to right field.

Jonathan Palmer followed with a single.

The Saints tied the game when Hall launched a three-run home run.

Chattahoochee Valley got a single to start the bottom of the seventh and then they scored off of an error to pick up a 6-5 win.

LBWCC returns to action on Thursday, May 9 in the ACCC tournament at Historic Eagle Stadium in Ozark.

The Saints will play Marion Military at 4 p.m., in the single-elimination portion of the tournament.
