PREPARE FOR REGION BATTLE: Straughn, Slocomb set for Friday slugfest

The Straughn Tigers (0-3, 0-1) look to get in the win column this week when they travel to Slocomb to take on the Red Tops (1-1, 0-1) on Friday in a Class 3A, Region 2 contest.

Straughn comes into the game after falling in a tough region contest with the Opp Bobcats.

In Straughn’s first region game of the season, the Bobcats topped Straughn 35-12.

Straughn started the game strong and took an early 6-0 lead.

In week zero, Straughn lost to Headland 42-14.

In week one, St. James took down Straughn 42-19.

Straughn will face Houston Academy in week four.

Straughn has been outscored 45-119 so far in 2019.

Slocomb holds a 5-3 record against Straughn.

Slocomb won last year’s game 21-6.

Slocomb won the 2017 contest 32-10.

Slocomb won the 2016 contest 47-27.

Straughn last beat Slocomb in 2006.

Slocomb comes into the contest with a 1-1 record.

The Red Tops didn’t play a game in week zero.

Slocomb picked up a 48-14 win over Cottonwood in week one.

In week two, Slocomb lost to Wicksburg 21-7 in their first region game of the season.

Slocomb will face Providence Christian in week four.

Slocomb has scored 55 points this season and has given up 35 points.

Richard Tisdale is in his fourth season at Slocomb.

Slocomb finished 2018 with a 5-5, 4-3 record.

Joel Williams is in his first season at Straughn.

Straughn finished 2018 with a 2-8, 2-5 record.

In 2018, Pike County finished the season as the Class 3A, Region 2 champions, Providence Christian finished in second place, Wicksburg came in third place, Houston Academy wrapped up the playoff spots with a fourth place finish, Slocomb just missed the playoffs as they finished in fifth place, Straughn finished in sixth place, Geneva came in seventh place and Opp came in eighth place.
