BRINGING HOME THE RINGS: South Alabama Arrows put up big efforts

The South Alabama Arrows 9U travel baseball team picked up a second place finish on Sunday a Florida tournament in Pace.

GAME ONE

ARROWS 8,

SANDLOT 7

In the opening game of the tournament, the South Alabama Arrows rallied for an 8-7 win.

The Sandlot took advantage of some opportunities in the top of the first inning and took a 4-0 lead.

Kaleb Covin struck out the final batter of the inning to end the top of the first.

Covin opened up the bottom of the first inning with a scorching triple to center field.

Cooper Maynor followed with a single that put the Arrows on the board.

Farley Brannon followed with a single of his own.

Row Thorn then drove in Maynor and Brannon with a triple to make the score 4-3.

The Arrows then tied the game up when Thorn stole home.

In the top of the second inning, the Sandlot plated three runs to go up 7-4.

J.T. J drew a walk and quickly stole second.

J moved to third on ground out from Ian Kimbril and then scored on a steal of home.

Covin then came through with a double to left field.

Covin stole third and then scored on a single from Maynor.

Maynor advanced to third on a single from Brannon and then the Arrows tied the game when Maynor stole home.

Covin got a ground out to start the top of the third inning and then picked up a pair of strikeouts to keep the game tied.

Isaack Harkins drew a walk with one out in the bottom of the third inning and then Zay Leslie drove in the winning run with a sacrifice ground out.

GAME TWO

ARROWS 7,

KLUTCH 6

In the second game of the day, the Arrows once again rallied from behind to pick up a 7-6 win.

The South Alabama Arrows got on the board first when Brannon came in to score on a passed ball.

In the bottom of the first inning, Klutch took a 3-1 lead.

Houston Weant drew a walk to start the top of the second inning and then came around to score on a passed ball.

The Arrows then got a big double from Brock Bennett that allowed Hallton Grimes and Jackson Grimes to come around to score of a 4-3 lead.

In the bottom of the second inning, Klutch plated one run to tie the contest.

The Arrows took advantage of four walks and a single in the top of the third inning that allowed them to go up 7-4.

Klutch came through with two more runs, but the Arrows were able to hold on for the victory.

GAME THREE

ARROWS 16,

BEACH SOX 9

The South Alabama Arrows continued their strong day with a 16-9 win over the Beach Sox in game three.

Covin got the game started with a single to center field.

Maynor followed with a single and then Brannon drove in Covin with a single of his own.

Thorn drove in Maynor with a ground out and then Brannon stole home to put the Arrows on top 3-0.

Weant kept the inning going when he single with one out.

Weant stole second and then came around to score on a single from Leslie.

Bennett moved Leslie to third with a single and J. Grimes came through with a double to left field that plated a pair of runs.

J. Grimes then stole third and home to put the Arrows on top 7-0.

The Beach Sox picked up two runs in the top of the first, the Arrows held a 7-2 lead.

Covin drew a walk to start the top of the second inning and then came around to score on a single from Maynor.

Brannon then tacked on another run with a single that scored Maynor.

After drawing a walk, Weant was able to score on a steal of home.

Leslie than came around to score to make the game 11-2.

The Beach Sox picked up a few runs in the bottom of the second inning, but the Arrows held an 11-7 lead after two innings of play.

In the top of the third inning, J, Kimbril and Covin loaded the bases on three-straight walks.

Maynor then drove in a run with a single to make the score 12-7.

Brannon followed with a double that put the Bulldogs up 13-7.

The Arrows continued to pile on the runs as Brannon and Thorn each came around to score on a steal of home.

Leslie then drove in Weant with a single to left field that put the Arrows up 16-7.

The Beach Sox plated two more runs, but the Arrows held on a for a 16-9 victory to put them in the championship game.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

LEGENDS 10, ARROWS 3

In the championship game, the Legends beat the Arrows 10-3

The Arrows scored one run in the top of the first, but the Legends came back with five runs in the bottom of the first and five runs in the bottom of the second to go up 10-1.

Brannon and Leslie drove in one run each for the Arrows.
