Seventh-ranked Providence narrowly defeats Straughn

In a one-point game, seventh ranked Providence Christian narrowly defeated Straughn, 14-13.
Providence Christian had first possession of the ball, the Tigers stopped the Eagles around the 25-yard line.
SHS’s Demetric Toney scored a TD on their opening drive with 1:55 left in the first.
Tommy Townsend’s kick no good, putting Straughn up 6-0.
On Providence Christian’s next possession, Tiger Isaac Grant sacked the Eagles’ quarterback, forcing a fumble and Straughn’s Levi Reeves recovered the fumble at the Eagles’ 5-yard line.
The next play QB Adam Anderson hit Toney for a short touchdown, and Townsend’s PAT was good, putting the Tigers up 13-0.
After a series of penalties against Straughn in the drive, Providence Christian’s Grant Weatherford scored with 7:03 left in the second quarter. John Jeter’s PAT was good, making the score 13-7.
In the Tigers’ next drive the Eagle defense was too strong, and the Tigers returned the strong defense on the Eagles’ next possession.
An aggressive Tiger defensive held the Eagles to a 37-yard field goal attempt, but the kick went wide right to end the first half.
Going into the third quarter, Providence Christian’s defense held Straughn to a punt.
Providence Christian scored with 5:09 left in the third quarter during its first drive of the second half.
The kick from Jeter put the Eagles up over the Tigers 14-13.
In the fourth, the Eagles attempted another field goal, but it was no good.
The Tigers’ last effort to go ahead was foiled by the Eagles’ defense.
The Tigers play host to Pike County next Friday night.
