Opp Elementary School celebrated its fifth year of Pioneer Day yesterday.

The event started as a small party in Heather Gafford’s fourth-grade classroom, but each year it has gotten bigger and bigger.

During Pioneer Day, the students learn about corn shucking, cornmeal making, they learn about the lives of pioneers from the Hornsby’s, a family that reenacts the lives of pioneers and learn about “Red Eagle, or William Weatherford from Trippy McGuire.
