The Florala High School Wildcats are headed to the Class 1A AHSAA State Playoffs after defeating Kinston 56-19 last night.

Logan West connected with Duke Flowers for a 5-yard touchdown pass to get the Wildcats on the board in the first quarter.

West then made a 19-yard run to increase the Wildcat lead and Zacceus Reese had a 25-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, as well.

Reese and West then both rushed for 45-yard touchdowns in the second quarter and Flowers rushed for a 25-yard touchdown and a 20-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

At the end of the game, Flowers caused a fumble and West returned it 103 yards for the final touchdown of the game. Senior Wildcat Patrick Simpson tacked on the two-point conversion for Florala.

“This was about the most complete game we played all year,” FHS head coach Toby Greene said. “We have been challenging our kids for the past couple of weeks to play a complete game and I think they did that tonight.”

With the win, Florala is headed to the playoffs for the second time in two years. They finished the regular season with a 7-3 record and a 5-2 region record. That is the first time with that record since 2007.

“After that loss to Elba, we set a goal that we would go 7-3,” Greene said. “Going into the playoffs we are going to try and keep improving. We have an off week next week, so we are going to practice a couple of days and just really make sure that we are a playoff-caliber team because once you get to playoffs, there are no easy games.”
