The Pleasant Home Lady Eagles are gearing up to defend their state championship title this week in Birmingham.

The Lady Eagles dominated the competition at super regionals in Montgomery last week by not dropping one set.

“It takes a little something extra to be able to come into a competition like that and not let anyone win a set against you,” Head coach Tony Wilson said. “Coming into Friday, we new that Oak Mountain would be a good team, and we went down by about seven or eight points, but fought back and clawed our way back to win the game. Going into the championship game, our confidence was high and it seemed like the girls spent everything they had on that last game against Oak Mountain, but true to form, they came out, set the tone and were able to pick up the win. Being able to win every match with a 3-0 sweep is such an accomplishment for these ladies.”

Going into the state tournament this week, Wilson said they are going to focus on what they have been the entire season.

“At this point, it’s pretty much just repetition,” Wilson said. “We haven’t been doing anything differently, we are just trying to keep our focus and maintain everything like it has been since the middle of the season. We are really just working on fundamental stuff such as covering up when we are going to attack, making our coverage’s and trying to cut down on those service errors.”

Wilson and his team’s ultimate goal is to come back with the state championship for a second year in a row.

“From the beginning of the season our ultimate goal is to go out and win the state championship,” Wilson said. “There are some girls on the senior squad that will be going up for their fourth straight year. I would say that we are all just full of excitement to go back and fight for that title again.”

The Lady Eagles travel to Birmingham to face Phillips High School on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m.
