Though it’s nearly impossible to predict when an emergency situation will arise, students and staff at LBW Community College had an exercise to be prepared in the event disaster did strike on Wednesday morning.

“The safety of students and employees of LBW Community College is the most important aspect of any emergency situation,” marketing director Renee LeMaire said. “For that reason, LBWCC and the Opp Police Department jointly held an emergency active shooter drill on the MacArthur Campus in Opp this morning.”

The drill was conducted to help leadership and law enforcement assess the effectiveness of emergency notifications and responses from emergency responders, employees and students.

Students and employees knew ahead of time there would be a drill, but students were not aware of the type of drill until Wednesday morning

After the drill, the LBWCC emergency response team debriefed with the OPD and discussed what went well and where there was need for improvements.

“We appreciate the cooperation of all affected students and employees, as well as the police officers involved,” she said.

A drill was held recently at the Andalusia campus and other drills are planned for the future at LBWCC’s other campuses.
