AJHS BOYS FALL TO CHMS IN FINAL SECONDS

The Andalusia Junior High basketball teams went 1-2 last night against Charles Henderson Middle School.

Seventh Grade Boys:

Andalusia – 51

CHMS – 31

Cadariyas Love led the scoring effort for the Bulldogs with 14 points.

Zade Newton came in second behind Love with 13 as well as Dalton Jackson.

Girls Game:

CHMS – 27

Andalusia -20

Kamari Gay led the scoring effort for the Lady Bulldogs with 13 points. Cape Merrell came in second with four points.

Eighth Grade Boys:

CHMS – 35

Andalusia – 32

Despite leading for most of the game, the AJHS eighth grade boys team fell by three points against CHMS.

Tevin Sigers started things off for the Bulldogs getting an and-one foul right off the back to go up 3-0. With 4:19 remaining in the first period, Tevin Sigers had another and-one, but missed the free throw putting the Bulldogs up 5-2.

CHMS took the lead with 2:30 left in the first period with a three-pointer to make it 9-5.

At the end of the first period, CHMS led 11-7.

With 4:30 left in the half, Jordan Stallworth and Tyler Sigers had two breakaway layups to take the lead 13-11.

At halftime, the Bulldogs led 19-17.

J’Morian Burnette helped the Bulldogs keep the lead after making a layup and then sinking both free throws after getting fouled with 46.5 seconds left in the third period, making the score 28-27.

With 4:38 left in the game, Tyler Sigers rebounded a shot and put it back up to increase the Bulldog lead 31-27.

CHMS was able to tie it up with 3:26 left in the game and took the lead with 3 minutes left.

With 1:15 left, the score remained at 35-32.

Tyler Sigers led the Bulldog scoring effort with 10 points.

“Overall I think the boys played O.K. tonight,” Head coach Robert Jackson siad. “We didn’t hit the shots that we needed to hit and we missed a couple of free throws that would have helped out, but overall it was O.K. and Charles Henderson is a really good team. It is a shame that we don’t get to play them again.” Jackson said looking forward, the team needs to work on man-to-man coverage.

“We did not cover man-to-man well tonight,” Jackson said. “I think for us, we need to work on that and then we will be good.”

The Bulldogs host Georgiana on Thursday for their next game.
