The Andalusia High School basketball teams all won over Goshen High School yesterday on their first home game of the season.

B Team:

Andalusia – 52

Goshen – 29

The AHS B Team boys are now 2-1 after defeating Goshen last night 52-29.

At the end of the first period, the Bulldogs led Goshen 18-8.

Brandon Davison got things started off for the Bulldogs in the second quarter with two layups and an and-one foul to make it 20-8 with 4:18 left in the half.

A.J. Coleman then hit a three-pointer to go up 23-8 and Travon Thomas was fouled on a layup to make it 25-9.

Erik McClain and Davison both made layups and Thomas made a three-pointer to go into the half up 34-9.

Goshen opened the second half to make it 34-11, but could not catch up as the third quarter ended 45-22.

Braylon Ray scored twice in the fourth quarter and Cammeyun Love scored a three-pointer to finish the game 52-29.

Davison led the scoring effort for the Bulldogs with 16 points, McClain had 10 and Thomas had nine.

Girl’s Game:

Andalusia – 51

Goshen 13

The Andalusia High School Lady Bulldogs came off hot tonight after a big loss to Charles Henderson Friday night.

The Lady Bulldogs went on a 21 point streak before allowing a Goshen basket with 5:12 left in the half.

With 3:12 left in the half, Goshen scored again with a three-pointer, but Jackia Woods answered to make it 25-5.

With one minute left in the half, Shalisa Thomas scored to make go up 27-5.

Daniah Lawson opened the second half for the Lady Bulldogs with two shots to increase their lead 31-7.

Then, D’Andrea Crittenden had a layup to make it 33-7.

To end the third period, Thomas stole the ball from Goshen and made a layup and then Crittenden did the same to make it 41-11 going into the fourth period.

Alyha Robertson opened up the fourth period for the Lady Bulldogs then Eryanna Sheridan Jahdiya Lowery and a last-second layup from Thomas finished off the game 51-13.

“The girls played amazing tonight,” AHS head coach Vivian Willis said. “They were only able to get three offensive rebounds on us. We wanted to score and they did what I asked of them.”

Thomas and Sheridan led the scoring effort for the Lady Bulldogs with 11 points. Lawson had eight and Lowery and Robertson had six.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs improve to 2-4.

Varsity Boy’s Game:

Andalusia – 70

Goshen – 42

The Andalusia High School varsity boys basketball team started off strong Monday night against Goshen High School to get their first home “W.”

Chance Russell started things off for the Bulldogs getting fouled and sinking a free throw to go up 1-0.

With 5:40 left in the first period, Russell had a huge block against Goshen and then Demetris Brundidge took it down to the other side of the court for a layup to make it 3-0.

Russell then hit a three-pointer and a layup to go up 8-0 before Goshen scored with 4:02 left in the first period.

Omare Latimer scored with 3:28 left in the first period to go up 10-2, then Elijah McClain and Brundidge scored at the end of the first period to make it 14-4.

Cameron Morrissette opened things up for the Bulldogs in the second period with an and-one to make it 17-4 and then Goshen answered to cut the Bulldog lead to 17-6.

With 5:47 left in the half, Jake Wilson hit a three and a layup to increase the Bulldog lead 22-6.

Bry’Arious Burnett then had a layup to make it 24-6.

With 4:11 left in the half, Latimer hit a three-pointer and a layup to make it 31-8.

To end the half, Bryon McCorvey, McClain, and Omar Cowan all scored to make it 41-15.   

Goshen opened the second half with a three-pointer, but Brundidge answered to make it 43-18.

Goshen then scored again, but McClain scored to increase the Bulldog lead 45-22.

With 2:56 left in the third period, Franklin Osario hit a three-pointer and Russell had a layup to make it 54-31.

Morrissette hit a buzzer-beater layup to end the third period 58-35.

Michael Hourel opened the fourth period for the Bulldogs with two baskets to make it 63-37 and then Osario and Wilson both scored to make it 67-37.

“I think we played really hard,” AHS head coach Brad Goldman said. “We came into the game tonight saying that if we played the way we played the other night and actually hit our shots then the outcome would be different and it was. We played a great first half, but then we kind of came out flat in the second half. We called a couple of timeouts to put some energy back into our guys then Goshen started to hit shots, but we started playing a little better towards the end of the game.”

Russell led the scoring effort for the Bulldogs with 14 points. Latimer had nine points and Brundidge had eight.

With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 3-2.
