Families looking to get into the holiday spirit can do so by reading some Christmas books recommended by Andalusia Public Library’s children’s librarian Caryl Lee Ray.

“My mama read ‘The Best Christmas Pageant Ever’ to her classes every year,” she said. “This book was donated in her memory by some fellow teachers. I’m going to take my guys to see the play at the Shakespeare Festival before Christmas.”

Ray said books range from silly “An Alabama Night Before Christmas to the traditional “The Night Before Christmas.”

“ ‘Pete the Cat’s 12 Groovy Days of Christmas’ and ‘Llama Llama Holiday Drama’ are both popular with the little people right now,” she said.

Ray said that that Cynthia Rylant’s words about family and visitors in “Christmas in the Country are easy to identify with.

“Little boys are enjoying ‘Santa Rex’ while my fellow librarians have passed around and laughter at ‘The Librarians Night Before Christmas.’”

Other suggestions are:

• “Crayons’ Christmas;”

• “Arthur’s Christmas;”

• “Santa’s Stuck;”

The Jolly Ole Elf will be at the library on Dec. 20 at 10:30 a.m. for story time.
