A weekend crash resulted in nonlife-threatening injuries thanks to seat belts.

Dec. 14 at 5:15 p.m., Covington County sheriff’s deputies and the Sanford Fire Department responded to a one-vehicle injury type crash on Hwy., US 84, at the east town limits of Sanford.

The driver, Eric Bush and his son were taken by ambulance to Andalusia Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.
According to the investigator, Sheriff Blake Turman, the vehicle left the roadway to the south side. The vehicle continued off road and ran over a driveway culvert, making the vehicle leave the ground. The vehicle continued airborne and struck a utility pole. The vehicle came to rest on its driver’s side facing east. Airbags were deployed and both occupants were wearing their seatbelts.
“I would like to remind our citizens to wear your seatbelt always,” Turman said. “Seatbelt use in this crash saved these folks’ lives. Also, if you are ever involved in a crash where power lines are downed, or you witness one, do not approach vehicle with power lines down. In this case, the power lines were not damaged. Drive safely and obey traffic laws. Seat belts save lives.”
