The nearly $500,000 runway lighting project will begin Jan. 2, South Alabama Regional Airport.

SARA Executive Director Jed Blackwell said that the project would last from Jan. 2 through Jan. 31.

“However, the contractor is working two crews to expedite the process,” he said. “If the weather is not too bad, we hope it can be completed in two weeks rather than taking the entire month of January.”

Earlier this year, Blackwell announced that TCA Electrical Contractors from Tifton, Ga., won the bid for the contract.

The runway will need to be closed for about three days to complete the project.

The project is part of a continuous project to improve the airport.

Airports can receive a certain amount of AIP entitlement funding each year based on activity levels and project needs.

Using these funds, SARA has been able to make a lot of needed improvements to the airport.
