Opp mayor Becky Bracke said there is a new vision for Opp in 2020, but there were things in 2019 that put them in the right direction.

“2019 was a great year in Opp,” Bracke said. “We made a lot of improvements in the city. We also had a lot of people wanting to make investments into our community. We have new businesses and I am very excited for the big things coming in 2020.”

Some of the highlights that Bracke mentioned during 2019 were having a swim team come to Opp and the planned activities that the Downtown Redevelopment Association hosted.

“We had the CASTS swim team come to use our pool in Opp,” Bracke said. “We had several activities such as the Downtown Get Down hosted by the DRA and the light project done by Vision in Action, which was huge for Opp. The Wheelhouse opened in Opp and that has been a tremendous benefit for us. It is now a destination where people from all over are coming to Opp.”

Looking forward there are several things that Bracke said are going to improve the City of Opp.

“We are looking forward to big things in 2020,” Bracke said. “The DRA has plans for a corner building in Opp to be sort of an incubator for small businesses. We have a lighting project at our baseball fields, we are going to have a new veteran’s park, we have the farmers market that Crossover started, new pavilions and benches in the state park and there is going to be a huge infrastructure project beginning in 2020 that will last for three years. With people investing in our community, we think that 2020 is going to be very bright.”
