Donations from local residents and fundraisers helped Gantt Fire and Rescue purchase its first new fire truck since 1994.

Fire Chief Scott Fight said that they have been really blessed with locals in the area contributing to the fire department.

Last year, the fire department responded to 52 calls in the area through its two stations.

The new truck has a bigger pumper that holds more water.

It also has better lights that allows for more safety for the firefighters as they respond to wrecks and fires.

Fight said it’s also a little quicker in response.

He said that the new truck pulls hills better and the type of turning radius it has allows for firefighters to maneuver around Gantt Lake better.

All the extrication equipment will be put in the new truck as well.

Fight said that having two stations and the equipment they have allows property owners in their territory to pay less in insurance.

Additionally, they are looking for more firefighters.

He said there are perks such as a full kitchen, showers, televisions, computers, weights and kayaks for firefighters.
