With COVID-19 on the rise, a local church community had to postpone its mission trip to Costa Rica, but the helping efforts will not stop. 

Pastor Dianne Everette, has been helping the community with a program called Feed the Sheep. 

“There was a group of seven of us going to Costa Rica during our Spring Break,” Everette said. “Due to the Coronavirus, it was canceled, but the students decided to start giving locally instead. By doing this we are giving the money we earned for their mission trip to Feed the Sheep and for elderly people in the community to buy their groceries.” 

Feed the Sheep is a program that Mt. Zion does every third Saturday of the month.

“This week, we are changing things up by turning it into a drive-thru only event,” Everette said. “It begins at 9 am and ends at 11 am. This event consists of all volunteers from Mount Zion.”

The S.A.L.T. class (Sharing and Living Together) sponsors this event throughout the year.

“Every Monday mornings we also have a grab bag ministry with a full meal including a sausage biscuit,” Everette said. “This event will be back open to the public when school comes back in session. We started out feeding about 30 people now and got up to about 75 people to feed.”

Mount Zion is also offering all the elderly in the community to reach out for help if they need things such as groceries. 

“We have volunteers that will do shopping and delivery,” Everette says.

Mt. Zion Pre- School is closed as of now and will be opening back up when school is back in session.
