Coronavirus cases up in South

Here’s an update on the number of positive cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus as reported by state health departments across the South.

Alabama’s number increased by 17 cases overnight. Mississippi’s cases grew by 16.

There are no reported cases in Covington County as of yet.

Louisiana reported a total of 347 cases Thursday morning, up 67 more cases overnight. The state now reports 8 deaths attributed to the virus.

 

Florida’s positive cases jumped by 61 to a total of 360.

Here’s a breakdown, by state, from Thursday morning:

Alabama: 68 positive cases, 0 deaths.
Arkansas: 37 positive cases, 0 deaths.
Florida: 360 positive cases, 8 deaths.
Georgia: 197 positive cases, 1 death.
Louisiana: 347 positive cases, 8 deaths.
Mississippi: 34 positive cases, no deaths.
Tennessee: 98 positives cases, no deaths.
Texas: 83 positive cases, 2 deaths.

 

The number of people infected worldwide surpassed the 222,000 mark. Deaths topped 9,100, but the number of people considered recovered reached over 84,500, according to a tally kept by Johns Hopkins University.

The University’s tracking shows approximately 9,400 cases in the U.S.
