To help families working to teach their children at home as students finish the school year out at home due to the COVID-19 outbreak, The Lucile Pierce Family Literacy Center is giving away curricula.

Greg Powell of the center said Tuesday that the center has thousands of books they are putting out on their front porch at the center located on Ida Avenue in Opp behind the Opp Fire Department.

“We are giving it all away,” he said. “We have math books, reading books, science and social studies books. Literally thousands of books and all are superintendent-approved books.”

Powell said some of the curricula is currently used and some is past, but they have anything from McGraw Hill titles to Thompson and everything in between.

“We don’t want anyone to get a gap in their education,” he said. “Right now, we have $3,000 readers out there.”

Powell said they have all grade level includes K-7 and high school.

“They are all brand new,” he said. “We will keep putting them out on the porch until all of our inventory is gone.”

“We want to be good neighbors and help our community,” he said.
