Another storm system is approaching the Covington County area this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Covington County Emergency Management Agency director Susan Harris said ingredients will be coming together to support another round of severe storms across the area Sunday and Sunday night.

“An enhanced risk of severe storms has been highlighted across most locations along and north of the Interstate 10 corridor, with a slight risk of severe storms near the coast Sunday and Sunday night,” Harris said. “All modes of severe weather, including damaging winds, a few tornadoes, and quarter size or larger hail all appear possible.”

Timing of the storm will likely be made over the next few days, Harris said.

“Adjustments to the severe weather timing as well as to the risk levels and areas will likely be made over the next few days,” Harris said. “Locally heavy rainfall will also be possible with this system, especially over interior portions of southeast Mississippi and southwest Alabama, which could have impacts on river flooding and possibly bring at least a limited risk of flash flooding.”

Harris said the EMA will continue to monitor the developing situation over the next few days and will provide additional updates.
