The safer at home order that closed restaurants and bars, gyms, salons and churches in Alabama will end Monday, May 11.

Gov. Kay Ivey announced the changes to the safer at home order during today’s Montgomery press conference. The new order will remain in place until May 22.

“Today’s order will hopefully provide another round of hope for all of us,” Ivey said, noting more people in the state had filed for unemployment in the last six weeks than the previous two years behind.

Removes the 10 person limit on non-work gatherings. People are still required to maintain 6 feet of distance from people from other households

Restaurants, bars and breweries may open with limited table seating and 6 feet between tables

Gyms may open up subject to social distancing, sanitation rules and guidelines.

Close contact service providers such as barbershops, hair salons, nail salons and tattoo services may open

The gathering limit is eliminated on beaches but people must maintain 6 feet of separation.

Not changing

Retail stores must maintain their 50% occupancy rate.

Entertainment venues such as nightclubs, theaters and bowling alleys are still closed.

Visitation at nursing home and hospitals is still limited

Educational institutions are still closed to in-person instruction

Child care facilities are limited to 12 or fewer children in a room.

Covington County currently has 48 cases and one death.

According to the Alabama Department of Public Health, Covington County has tested 598.

Alabama currently has 9,048 confirmed cases, with a total of 117,301 tested and 372 deaths.
