Covington County EMA said so far the county isn’t eligible for FEMA aid from the April 19 severe weather outbreak, but there is a small amount of time left to report damages to EMA for those without insurance or underinsured.

EMA director Susan Harris said that Covington County has not yet met the Individual Assistance/SBA threshold to qualify for FEMA funding.

“This assistance would have been for individuals that received damage to their primary home/business,” she said. “The requirement for the state to make a request is 25 homes/businesses with major damage and/or destroyed, with no insurance or underinsured. We appreciate everyone submitting their damage in an effort to meet the required threshold.”

So, far 15 businesses and homes were reported that were not insured or underinsured.

“I will have to have all paperwork submitted to AEMA by June 3,” Harris said.  “Please stress sheds, carports, vehicles, barns, or tree removal are not counted in this threshold.  It’s primary residence and business with no insurance or under insured. April 19 impacted many people in Covington County and there was a lot of damage but most were covered with home owners insurance.”
