The Lurleen B. Wallace Community College (LBWCC) Foundation announces a newly established scholarship in memory of Dr. Jason Cain, a longtime LBWCC employee who was dedicated to the success of his students.

“There could not be a better legacy to leave. Jason loved students,” said LBWCC Associate Dean of Institutional Advancement, Arlene Davis.

Cain served as the Student Support Services Campus Coordinator on the MacArthur Campus in Opp and worked at LBWCC for over 20 years.  Cain’s parents, Harold and Martha Jo Cain, established the scholarship in remembrance of their son Jason.

“Jason was our dear friend and colleague who was dedicated to the success of LBW students,” said Dean of Instruction and MacArthur Campus Director, Peggy Linton.

“In all his roles throughout the years–counselor, coordinator, or director of the Student Support Services Program–Dr. Cain helped so many students achieve their college and career goals. He used his talents and abilities to enrich and encourage others, and his contributions to the college are long-lasting.”

Scholarship fundraising efforts will be planned in the future. All contributions will be applied to the Dr. Jason Cain Memorial Scholarship through the LBWCC Foundation.

Cain’s co-workers in Student Support Services best reflected on his impact by saying, “Every day, in both his professional life and personal life, Jason Cain lived to help others.”

“Students migrated to him because they realized his genuine interest in their success. Coworkers knew that Jason would go the extra mile in his support of them, while community leaders recognized that Jason wanted to promote his community and improve its quality of life. Jason’s untimely death leaves a void in the LBW family, yet motivates us to follow his example to show kindness and make a difference in students’ lives.”

The LBWCC Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. To help support this scholarship effort, make checks payable to the LBWCC Foundation with a notation of ‘Dr. Jason Cain Memorial Scholarship’ and mail to P.O. Box 1311, Andalusia, AL 36420.
