Due to the uncertainty that follows COVID-19, vacation bible school is put on pause for many local churches. Pastor Brennan Peacock of First United Methodist Church is not sure whether they will be holding VBS this year yet.

“All of the details are still uncertain, but we plan to hold VBS during the week of July 27-30,” Peacock said.

In an attempt to bring kids together in a safer way, Peacock is considering using remote

methods such as Zoom for the kids who register for it. “We are planning to include virtual

interactions leading up to VBS, including Zoom for kids who register,” Peacock said.

If able to have an in-person gathering for VBS, the church plans to keep everything

outdoors and limit the attendees. “We plan to do an outdoor gathering with the kids, but we will

have to limit the number of kids who can register,” Peacock said.

Despite COVID-19 restricting plans for the summer, Pastor Tyler Ingram of Buck Creek

Baptist Church still wants something planned for local kids. Although, no plans have been

officially made yet.

“We do not have anything scheduled as of right now,” Ingram said. “If the virus wouldn’t

have happened, we would be in the middle of VBS right now.”

Ingram is working with other members of the church to plan VBS for this summer. “We

are still planning and hope to have something put together soon,” Ingram said. “We will have

something, we just have to work on it.”

Pastor William Worley of First Baptist Church is also unsure of the church’s VBS plans.

“We are still undecided on whether we will have VBS this summer,” Worley said. “If so, it will be

in late July.”

If everything goes smoothly, VBS will happen in late July. Although, the experience will

be modified due to the safety of those attending. “Everything will be modified,” Worley said. “We

are still meeting, but we will know more later.”
