County increases 0.4 percent in 2020 Census response rate

Covington County has only increased 0.4 percent in 2020 Census response rates in the last week.

Andalusia (60.6 percent) has increased 0.8 percent.

Lockhart (39.2 percent) has increased 0.8 percent.

Florala (48.9 percent) has increased 0.5 percent.

Opp (64.2 percent) has increased 0.4 percent.

River Falls (45.1 percent,) Red Level (54.9 percent,) Babbie (58.3,) Libertyville (43.7 percent,) Gantt (47.2 percent,) Carolina (71.1 percent,) Horn Hill (59.3 percent,) Heath (54.3,) Onycha (44.9 percent) and Sanford (42.2 percent) all have no change in the last week.  The Census Bureau has shortened the deadline to respond to the census by a month, and will end counting on Sept. 30.

If the rate does not increase to at least 90 percent by the end of September, the state will lose one or two Congressional seats, as well as federal funding.

The easiest way to complete the Census is self-response online at www.My2020Census.gov, by phone at 844-330-2020 or by mail.

Census Bureau workers will only knock on the doors of those who have not responded. Federal Census Bureau workers have undergone training and will adhere to all rules of social distancing and face coverings.
