The Opp High School Bobcats (1-1) fought hard, but in the end lost by five points against a tough Elba Tiger Football team 26-21.

“The effort from our guys was great,” OHS head coach Brent Hill said. “Penalties really hurt us and turnovers. Elba is a really good football team. I have a real respect for them and I think they played a really good game.”

Hill said there were up and down moments for each team.

“At the end of the day, the things that hurt us were penalties,” Hill said. “We are much better than we have been, but we still have a ways to where we want to be. I can’t complain about the effort, we just have to execute better.”

Opp quarterback Hal Smithart was 32 of 58 for 302 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.

Peyton Ellis had 11 catches for 128 yards and Lane Ballard seven catches for 59 yards.

Peyton Ellis had eight carries for 46 yards.

The Bobcats take on New Brockton next week at home at 7 p.m.
