The Straughn High School Tigers varsity football team (3-0) is starting the season strong with three wins under their belt after defeating Bullock County Friday night 26-14.

SHS head coach Bradley Stephens said that his boys faced adversity early.

“I think the guys came together at halftime and really made some adjustments,” Stephens said. “I think we did a good job of coming back and playing like we know how to play. Of course we still have a lot to work on, but I think we played well, especially in the second half.”

Stephens said starting off the season 3-0 after having a couple of rough seasons just shows the toughness of his senior group.

“It has been huge,” Stephens said. “This senior group has really gone through some adversity and they have had to put in some time, but they have come together and are really buying in. They are working hard.”

One thing that Stephens said they are going to be working on in preparation for next week is being tougher up front.

“We’ve got to get better up front,” Stephens said. “We also have to continue working on our coverage. For the most part, we just have to continue to get better at what we do.”

Next week, the Tigers take on Ashford at Ashford.
