The Andalusia High School Bulldog varsity football team (5-3, 4-1) used a strong defense to shut out the Greenville High School Tigers (4-4, 2-3) Friday night 27-0.

The scoring drive for the Bulldogs started in the first quarter when Gage Theus hit a field goal to put the Dogs on top 3-0.

With 4:01 left in the first quarter, Andalusia’s quarterback Jake Wilson connected with Caleb Blackston for a field goal to make it 10-0.

At the end of the first quarter, Omare Lattimer ran to the 40 yard line to get a first down for the Bulldogs.

Theus hit another field goal with 10:16 left to increase the Bulldog lead 13-0.

With 7:36 left, Greenville punted the ball and recovered on the opposing 33 yard line.

#7 on Greenville had a big catch to get the Tigers to the 27 yard line, but the Tigers could not convert on fourth down.

The Tigers opened the second half, but had to punt.

Andalusia got the ball on the opposing 49 yard line with 9:09 left in the third.

Caleb Blackston had another first down catch to get the Dogs down to the 36 yard line. After a flag was thrown, Andalusia running back Josh Gurley punched it in to increase the Bulldog lead 20-0.

Greenville had to punt again on the next drive putting the Bulldogs on the 36 yard line.

With 2 minutes left, Wilson connected with Chip Morgan in the end zone to finish the scoring effort 27-0.

“I think this is three shut outs in a row, so our defense certainly is playing well,” AHS head coach Trent Taylor said. “You never know how you are going to play after a bye week and offensively I thought we started off pretty sluggish. Defense didn’t skip a beat, in fact, I thought we looked quicker tonight. We’ve got a big one next week. So, we are going to enjoy this one for a while and then try to win that one so we can be at home in the first round.”

The Bulldogs face Carroll High School next week in Carroll.
