This week, the streets of Covington County will be filled with Christmas cheer as several Andalusia, Opp and Florala prep for their annual Christmas parades.

Andalusia:

The Annual Andalusia Christmas Parade is scheduled to take place on Thu., Dec. 7, with the Downtown Tree Lighting Ceremony beginning at 6 p.m. Johnny Brewer and Travis Day will provide entertainment for the tree lighting.

Line up for the parade will be at the Andalusia High School stadium parking lot and the route will be from the First Baptist Church on East Three Notch Street, through the Court Square and ending on River Falls Street.

The Grand Marshalls for the parade this year are Brenda Gantt and Sister Schubert.

For those that would like to stay home and watch the parade, the Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce will be live streaming the parade on their Facebook page.

Andalusia High School’s basketball teams will take on Florala Thursday night.

Simultaneously, the Andalusia Area Chamber will be lining up float and vehicle entries for the annual Christmas parade in the AHS stadium parking lot.

To minimize traffic problems, basketball fans are asked to enter the AHS campus from the East Three Notch side. Fans also should note that once the parade begins moving from line-up to East Three Notch at approximately 6:45, traffic will be blocked on First Avenue, part of Third Street, and on Third Avenue. This will include the entrance to the AHS parking lot on the east side (gymnasium side) of Old Main.

Fans are encouraged to make plans to arrive early, or to park at Andalusia Junior High School if they are arriving for the last game, or need to leave after the early games.

Opp:

The Opp Christmas Parade is scheduled for Fri., Dec. 4, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Lineup will be at Channel Lee Stadium and only floats, cars, and trucks that are participating in the parade will be allowed to enter through the visitors’ gate at the stadium.

No other vehicles will be allowed through the visitors’ gate.

No people who are not located on/in the floats, cars, or trucks will be allowed through the visitors’ gate.

Following the parade, there will be Cookies, Coloring and Photos with Santa at the Opp Depot.

This year, Opp will also feature the Opp Christmas Village. It will be located at Benton Park on Cameron Road across from the softball complex.

It will be open Fri., Dec. 4, until Sun., Jan. 10, from 5:30 p.m., until 10:30 p.m. There will be walking tours only. No vehicles are allowed and no parking on the grass allowed.
