Prescribed burns are planned at Frank Jackson State Park near Opp, Alabama, during February and March 2021, weather permitting. The burns are being conducted to reduce the risk of wildfire and enhance wildlife habitat within the park.

Every effort will be made to ensure safety and proper smoke management during the burns. As a safety precaution, the park’s hiking trails will be closed during the burn periods. Additionally, campers might experience smoke in the campground.

The Alabama Forestry Commission will conduct the controlled burns for the Alabama State Parks Division. The City of Opp Fire Department has been notified and will be on standby if needed.
