Family of Lawrence Horwath wants him to be remembered as loving and kind

After an accident happening on Monday, the family of Lawrence Horwath wants him to be remembered as loving and kind.

On Monday, March 15, around 10:30 a.m., Covington County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on Houston Crossing Road in the Sanford Community off Loop Road.

The situation was reported by a neighbor that a man, identified as Horwath, 66 years of age, had been in an accident and that a tree had fallen on him. Units responded to the home.

Mr. Horwath was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Covington County Sheriff’s Department is conducting a full investigation. Currently, the evidence is being analyzed.

“He was extremely loving and kind,” the family said. “He was always happy, smiling and laughing. We all lost our hero.”

Sheriff Turman would like to express his condolences to the family. Also, he reminds us to be careful when working with large trees and saws.

“This could have happened to anyone of us,” Turman said. “Be safe and careful. If you are unsure of your abilities do not attempt without supervision of someone who knows.”

A public visitation for Mr. Horwath will be held Thursday beginning at 4:30 PM at Foreman Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be private.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Horwath of Andalusia; one son, Blaine Horwath and fiance’, Kaitlin Keene of Toney, AL; two daughters, Patricia Horwath and Devaris Skanes of Andalusia, Danielle and Bruce Daniels of Enterprise, AL; three grandchildren, Kelsie Horwath, Jordyn Skanes, Sabrey Skanes; his mother, Mary Horwath of Detroit, MI; two sisters, Michelle and Joe McAllister of Harrison Township, MI, Cynthia Cornett of Detroit, MI, one brother, Dennis Horwath and wife JoAnn of Taylor, MI; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, James Horwath and his brother, David Horwath.
