The Andalusia Tennis Association and the City of Andalusia are teaching the fundamentals of tennis during a summer camp this week.

After having to cancel last year due to the pandemic, the camp is back in full swing for its 19th year.

The camp is taught in four groups: 8 and under, 9 and 10, beginners, and intermediate. The camp is being coached by Paul Smith and Monica King.

Over a six-week period, the camp attendees will learn all about the basics of tennis techniques. The students will participate in a tournament the final week of the camp.

Smith said the goal of the camp is to help young tennis players engage in the sport and become lifelong players.

“We like to see them fall in love and appreciate the game,” he said.”It’s all about having fun and learning to do some things. Hopefully, they will like it so much they go on to play high school tennis and enjoy the sport for life.”

The tennis camp is still open to new participants. Those interested are invited to join the camp on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There is a registration fee of $30 for a single child; $50 for two children; and $60 for three children.
