Another suspect charged in car burglaries

The quick response of a homeowner led the Andalusia Police Department to make yet another arrest for car burglary.

Gary Lee Moore, 23, of Opp, is charged with burglary third; three counts of breaking and entering a motor vechilce; theft of property fourth; and attempting to elude.

On Sunday, the APD received a phone call from a homeowner on Sanford Road whose security cameras revealed a male suspect was going through his wife’s car. When officers arrived on the scene, they approached vehicle parked in a neighbor’s driveway. As they approached, they saw a suspect start running.

A foot chase ensued, and officers were able to apprehend the subject, who was Moore. While doing an inventory of his vehicle, officers made contact with the homeowners who made the original call, as well as their neighbors. The original caller told officers the suspect took a gray bag that had boat parts with him, and offers were able to find that bag, as well as a flashlight and two rolls of silver coins reported taken from a neighbor’s vehicle.

Moore is being held in the Covington County Jail on a $46,000 bond.

Police Chief Paul Hudson said the investigation is continuing, and again reminds local residents to keep their vehicles locked.
