The Covington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a stabbing incident Thursday that also led to one man being arrested on drug charges.
According to a CCSO statement, deputies responded to a home on Antioch Road where a male, Gary Lamar Steele, was allegedly assaulted by his sister, Eva Marie Piland. Steele sustained a stab wound and was air transported to a hospital.
Piland was arrested and charged with second degree assault and is being held on a $50,000 bond.
During the investigation, Robert Marcus Ward was detained for questioning. While in the back seat of a patrol car, it was discovered that Ward was attempting to hide a syringe loaded with methamphetamine. He was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held on a $13,000 bond.
“It is routine that all officers check the rear seats and seats occupied by suspects and the public at the beginning of each shift and after each transport. We know what people are capable of and expect it. For a suspect to dump illegal substances, it’s just not smart. Sometimes they make it very easy to arrest them,” said Covington County Sheriff Blake Turman.
