Peggy Bradley Walker Chambers was born August 16,1938, to Charles Franklin and Myrtle Matthews Bradley. She slipped peacefully to her heavenly home on August 19, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

Peggy grew up on the family farm in the Red Oak Community and graduated from Covington County High School on May 25, 1956.  She gave her heart to her Lord in July, 1947, at Judson Baptist Church when she was eight years of age and served Christ faithfully as long as her health permitted.  Even in her teenage years, Peggy found a place to serve her Lord.  Between her sophomore and junior years of high school, she was the Director of Vacation Bible School at Judson Baptist Church.  She taught one of the younger VBS girls a solo for presentation at parents’ night at the close of VBS.

Peggy was married to James Parker Walker on November 26, 1959 at Red Oak Baptist Church.  Peggy and Jim resided in Florala for the majority of their life together where she was employed by the Bank of Florala for 30 years.  After retiring from the bank, Peggy worked as a substitute teacher in several area schools for 15 years, where she endeared herself to students and staff alike.  She loved people and reached out to everyone with a genuine, caring spirit.  Her infectious laugh and kind demeanor were blessings to everyone she met.  When she was a member of FBC, Florala, she was a valued and faithful member of the choir.

After Jim’s untimely death in July, 1981, Peggy married Van Chambers on July 14, 1989. She was an active member of Damascus Baptist Church and served as their music director for a number of years.

Peggy had a God-given talent in music and loved singing and playing piano.  She had an awesome soprano voice, but could pick up the harmony, alto or tenor, when needed. She was a gifted pianist, although she never had piano lessons.

Peggy is survived by her loving and devoted  husband of 32 years, Van Chambers of Florala, AL; daughter, Tammy Walker Bragg (Keith) of Dothan, AL; daughter, Sheila Chambers McGuire (Riley) of Montgomery, AL; grandchildren, Hagler (Casey) Ward of Geneva, AL, Haden (Ryan) Brown of Ashford, AL, and Hunter (Hannah) Ward of Geneva, AL; great grandchildren, Walker, Kaden, Christian, Klaire and Ascher Ward, Haynes and Hollis Brown; sister, Patsy Bradley Barrington; brother, Hugh Bradley; sisters-in-law, Barbara and Evelyn Bradley, Rita Wallace (Vic), and Faye Mosley (Hudson); and a number of doting nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her first husband, James P. Walker; parents, Charles Franklin and Myrtle Matthews Bradley; brothers, Don and Frank Bradley.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 21, 2021 in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home in Florala. Burial will follow in the Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva, AL and Evans Funeral Home of Florala, AL directing.
