The Alabama Department of Transportation will begin an intersection modification project at the intersection of U.S. Highway 29 and Alabama Highway 137, southwest of Carolina, on Monday, August 23, weather permitting.

The area is commonly referred to as “The 11-mile post.”

The project will consist of constructing an additional turn lane on U.S. Highway 29 onto Alabama Highway 137. ALDOT will also realign Alabama Highway 137 at the intersection to improve sight distance of U.S. Highway 29.

Motorists should expect delays and plan accordingly for possible lane closures and reduced speed limit.

The $392,127.92 project was awarded to Wiregrass Construction Company, Inc., out of Dothan, who had the lowest bid that met project requirements.

The project is expected to be complete in the fall of 2021.
