The Opp Bobcats battled back from a big deficit but were unable to make up enough ground against Elba as they fell, 33-28.

For Opp, the contest was the first of the season after last week’s matchup with Geneva was canceled. Since Geneva canceled the game, it counts as a win for the Bobcats (1-1).

Elba scored first to take an early 7-0 lead. But, the Bobcats answered with their own score aided by a 47-yard reception by ZaZa Lindsey to tie the game.

Elba pulled away to take a 19-7 lead in the second quarter. But Lindsey’s second touchdown of the game put Opp back in striking distance, 19-14, at the half.

The third quarter saw Elba score a pair of touchdowns to open a 33-14 lead.

Cole Jennings got Opp back on the board with a rushing touchdown and Terry Davis later took in from 20 yards out to close the gap to 33-28.

EHS held on for its fifth straight win in the series.

OHS Head Coach Mike Dubose said his team showed character to come back in the game.

“We made too many mistakes and got ourselves in a hole. Elba played well and they have a good football team. We were fortunate to have a chance to win there at the end but have a lot of work to do,” Dubose said.

Opp will be on the road again next week as they open region play at New Brockton (2-0).
