Several college ministry leaders are joining forces to hold a rally for college students and high school students.

Bethany Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Andalusia, Westview Baptist Church of Opp, and Southside in Opp began meeting together in August to strengthen the community’s ministry with college students.

“We have a perfect opportunity to work with our local college students through LBWCC in Opp and Andalusia. There is already a Bible study each Wednesday night on the college campus at 8 p.m. College students are usually in between being a teenager or young adult, and typically, each church doesn’t have its own college ministry. We wanted to strengthen our alliance with other area churches and reach out to this specific age group,” Natalie Pinson of Westview Baptist Church said.

Pinson and her husband help lead the college student ministry at Westview Baptist Church. She added they are hoping this will be the first of many community events.

“We want to encourage college students in their faith as they are making big decisions about their careers and other life choices. This is a vital time for them,” Pinson said.

The event will be geared toward college students and high school seniors. It will focus on encouraging them in their faith while in college.

“Our college students and high school seniors face uncertain times in our world. We hope to encourage them in their faith in God, strengthen their relationship with other college students in the area, and let them know that we believe in them and their goals in life,” Pinson said. “While we are helping organize the event, college students will be leading the prayer and music among other things.”

Scott Dawson will be the guest speaker. Pinson said many of the college students who attend church know him as the founder of the Strength to Stand Conference. “Many area churches attend this winter conference, and he is well-known across this age group. Scott is an evangelist who speaks to all ages.”

Dawson’s biography can be found at https://scottdawson.org/scott.

The event is free to attend and will take place Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Martha and Solon Dixon Center at LBW Community College.
