Kyndra Anthony and Sharae Coleman combined for 36 points as Florala began the 2021-22 basketball season with a 51-25 win at Chipley.

“I was very proud of our team’s effort in the season opener. There are some aspects of the game that we need to improve on, but for it being our first game, I was very impressed with the effort of everyone. I was most impressed with our efforts on defense,” Head Coach David Bass said.

Florala (1-0) held a slim 12-9 lead over Chipley (0-1) at the end of the opening quarter. The defense remained hot in the second quarter while the offense built a 26-15 lead at halftime. The Wildcats then surged to a 42-20 margin after three quarters. The Tigers never found an offensive rhythm and were stymied once again in the fourth for the final tally.

Anthony paced FHS with 21 points including four three-pointers. Coleman started her senior season with 15 points, 18 rebounds, six steals, and four assists and went 7-of-10 at the line. Cheyenne Regan added eight points and 10 rebounds. Florala earned 18 steals against Chipley.

The Wildcats remain on the road this week with trips to Ashford on Thursday, Nov. 18 and Zion Chapel on Friday, Nov. 19. Both games are scheduled to get underway at 5:30 p.m.

“Going into this week’s games, we are putting emphasis on some areas that we need to improve on like taking care of the basketball,” Bass said.
